First Birthday, Third Birthday

Our much-loved little boy turned three on September 20th, the first kid birthday for our family, and a day we have dreamed of for many years.  We made it a small family celebration with Ayat & Ayate, Grandma & Grandpa, and Uncle Joseph.  We talked it up for several days and on the morning of, the first words out of his mouth, even before "good morning," were "birthday cake?"  Enjoy a sneak peek:

Helping Mommy clean up the cake batter.

My first attempt at cake decorating.  Don't laugh; we all have to start somewhere.
I made crazy cake (chocolate) with cream cheese frosting from scratch.
It was moist and delicious... if I do say so myself.

I had my idea of a schedule: sing Happy Birthday, eat cake, open presents, play with toys.
Uncle Joseph, however, thought the birthday boy should decide.  So the schedule was:
Open presents, set up "the track," sing Happy Birthday, eat cake, play again.
These are the priorities of our three year old.

"The Track"
Uncle Joseph is scoring some major points again.

The baby doll was enamored with the "Who's that doggy in the window" musical puppy.
Well, actually, she was enamored with the tag on the musical puppy.

A couple weeks prior, Mr. Personality had watched Mommy blow out 39 candles, and he was ready!
He needed no prompting to blow out the candles; he knew to wait til the end of the song and he didn't wait a second longer.  Then he immediately took the candles off (he calls them "candy"), handed them to me, reminded me that we can't eat the "candy," and said "cut cake Mommy please."  Yes, he's a take control kind of guy, and can be a bit bossy... we're working on that.

(These snapshots are taken from the FlipVideo, so they're a bit blurry.)

Mr. Personality himself!
People often ask me if he's always this happy and smiley.
The answer is... about 80% of the time.
The other 20%... well, we won't get into that right now...
let's just say: Mr. Personality has a strong personality.
We consider it such a privilege to give this little treasure his first birthday party ever!
